Neil James Hampton, age 85, of Bloomington, WI, died on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster.
He was born on April 25, 1932, in Glen Haven, WI, the son of Charles and Kathryn (Rauch) Hampton. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950, and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954. On May 25, 1957, Neil was united in marriage with Jeanne Reiser at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien.
He farmed for over three decades with his brother Bernard on their farm in Little Grant township. Spring was his favorite season – a time to cultivate the soil and plant the crops. Neil loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing euchre, watching Badger basketball and football, and Chicago Cub (World Champions 2016) baseball. He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, the Bloomington Council #4416 of Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne; daughters Kelly (Ken) Nechvatal, and Tracy (Randy Musack) Hampton, and son John (Carolee) Hampton; grandchildren: Adrien (Blaine) Duncan, Eamon (Christina) Nechvatal, Analese (Tripp Watson) Nechvatal, Jake (Ashley) Musack, Jackson Hampton, and Aidan Hampton. He is also survived by his brother, Larry (Jean) Hampton; brothers-in-law: Dayle Meyer; Cy Harris; Don (Edith) Ritchie; sisters-in-law: Patricia Hampton; Nancy Reiser; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by four brothers: Bob (Georgia), Bernard, Paul (Emma) and Pat Hampton; six sisters, Ann (Ralph) Johll, Donna (Charlie) Grass, Mary (Jim) Krogman, Ruth (Jack) Patterson, Jane Meyer and Rachel (Phil) Barr; brothers-in-law Earl Reiser; Howard Coffin; sister-in-law Etta Harris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given in Neil's memory to West Grant Rescue Squad. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is assisting the family.
