 Nancy Jane Mahoney, age 73, of Platteville died  Thursday, September 11, 2008 at St. Marys  Medical  Center in  Madison. She was born on  October 6, 1934 in  Atlantic,  Iowa the daughter of Royal Maurice and Lillian Rocetha (Jones) Clithero.  Nancy graduated from  Atlantic  High School in 1952 and then graduated from the  University of  Iowa with a degree in Art Education.

Nancy met her husband, George Raymond Mahoney in  Iowa City,  Iowa and they were united in marriage in 1962. They moved to Platteville where George became a professor at the University Wisconsin Platteville.  Nancy taught art at both the middle school and high school in Platteville before starting a family. Together they raised seven children and eventually she went back into teaching as a substitute teacher in  Grant  County.

Nancy loved art, music, theatre, animals, travel, movies, outdoors, playing scrabble on the computer and riding her bike. She especially loved her four granddaughters.

Nancy is survived by seven children: Thomas (Marcia) Mahoney, Santa Monica, CA and their daughters, Eden Geneva and Savannah Rose; Sara Mahoney, Platteville; Kate Mahoney, Boston, MA; Charlie Mahoney, San Francisco, CA; Leo Mahoney, Platteville; Dan (Dana) Mahoney, Minneapolis, MN and their daughters, Clare Nan and Brin Jensen and Jennifer Mahoney, San Diego, CA; her sister, Jan (Bob) Williams, Atlantic, IA; her cousin Cynthia (Rick) Nicholson, Seattle, WA and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in October, 1997; her brother, Tom Clithero and her grand-niece, Nikki Poli.

A Liturgy of the Word was held at  1:00 p.m. on  Sunday, September 14, 2008 at  St. Augustines Catholic Church in Platteville with Monsignor Charles Schluter officiating.  Nancys wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers a Nancy Jane Mahoney memorial fund has been established.
