Nancy J. Gabel, age 83, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, peacefully with her family by her side. She was born on March 23, 1940, in Lancaster, the daughter of Leonard and Sylvia (Mason) Gabel. Nancy graduated from Bloomington High School in 1958. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse earning a degree in medical technology, graduating in 1962. Nancy worked for Medical Associates as a laboratory technician for 34 years. She volunteered with the Cassville Rescue Squad for 14 years. Nancy enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, fishing, painting, writing poems and being outdoors. She was an excellent mentor and a very slow, but safe driver. Birthdays and Christmas holiday traditions were very important to her. It will be painful carrying on the birthday tradition as she was the only one who could carry a tune singing “Happy Birthday”. Nancy also loved her cats and her dogs, Maggie and Annie.
Survivors include her children: Jamie (Ken) Howe, Potosi; John “Jack” (Dawn Walker) Ploessl, Cassville; grandson, Beau (Alison Knaeble) Ploessl, Potosi; and a wonderful friend, Sharon Reynolds, Cassville; along with many nephews and nieces, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Gabel.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Waterloo Adventist Church Cemetery, Cassville. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
Rest in Peace.
The family would like to thank the Cassville Rescue Squad and the employees at Mercy One for their care and compassion for Nancy.
