Monroe C. Gardner, age 81, of Glen Haven passed away peacefully at his home, on Friday, February 6, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Monroe was born November 17, 1933 in North Andover WI, the son of Charles and Lena (Esser) Gardner. On August 21, 1965 he married Wilma L. Berberich at the Prairie Du Chien United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army stateside. Monroe was a member of the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington, and the VFW Post No. 7080 of Cassville. He was one of the original members of the Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department, having served more than forty years. Monroe enjoyed a good game of cards, was an avid Wisconsin Badger fan attending many football games with this wife Wilma, family members and friends. He especially loved time spent with family, attending his grandchildrens many activities events and many a day spent on the Mississippi River and the lakes of Hayward fishing with his sons.

On July 12, 2008 Monroe married the second love of his life Dolores J. Blum at St Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. The two of them were never far apart and always away from home, enjoying time spent on the road and the many treasures that southwest Wisconsin has to offer.

Monroe is survived by his wife Dolores Gardner; two sons Brian (Lori) Gardner and their children, Brooke, Brianna, Dalton and great granddaughter Alivia Gardner; Steven (Deb) Gardner and their children Andrew and Sarah; stepson Stephen (Lou Ann) Adrian and their children Adam (Angie) Adrian and their children Erin and Evelyn and Emily (Dan) Lilla and their children Nolan and Chole. One sister Evelyn (Thomas) Krogman, two brothers Neil (Doris) Gardner; Charles (Rita) Gardner; sisters-in-law Anna Mae Lessard and Bev Berberich; and brothers-in-law, Harold (Shirley) Berberich and Jerry Heike.

In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by his first wife Wilma: sister-in-law Ruth Heike and brothers-in-law Royce Berberich and Kenneth Lessard; and a grandson, Greg Adrian.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial with military honors was held in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends called on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Monroe C. Gardner memorial fund has been established.
