Modesta A. Scott, of Oregon, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. She was born on November 23, 1923, the daughter of Charles P. and Inez (Sedbrook) Adams. Modesta attended Hurricane country school. On October 27, 1942, she was united in marriage to Dorman Scott at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed for forty plus years. The couple retired and moved to Oregon and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Foxboro Country Club. Dorman preceded her in death one month after their anniversary. Modesta enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and gardening. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who dearly loved keeping up with her family and their activities. Modesta was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and Holy Mother of Consolation of Oregon.
Survivors include her children: Barb Richter, Oregon; Robert Scott, Lancaster; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorman, Modesta was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Murphy, and her siblings: Loretta (Maurice) Wamsley, Charlotte (Delbert) Meyer, and Leila Mae Adams.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family.
