Mildred J. Sprosty, age 90, of Patch Grove, died on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born on May 1, 1920, in Haney Township, the daughter of John and Ann (Doskocil) Mezera.Mildred graduated from Mount Hope High School. She then attended nursing school in Milwaukee where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. On April 11, 1945, Mildred was united in marriage to James F. Sprosty at St. Johns Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. In 1952, James and Mildred moved to the family farm. Mildred was employed as a Registered Nurse for forty-nine years. She was strong in her faith and was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove and the West Grant Lioness Club. She loved spending time with her family and attending her grandchildrens activities. Mildred enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and making quilts.
Survivors include thirteen children: Margaret Mueller, Sheboygan; John (Deborah) Sprosty, Sheboygan Falls; Elizabeth (Joe) Wanersdorfer, Colorado Springs, CO; Annastasia (Edward) Mayer, Platteville; Lucy (James) Cornford, Prairie du Chien; Mary (Leslie) Dilley, Mount Hope; George (Jackie) Sprosty, Richmond, VA; Gerard (Barb) Sprosty, Prairie du Chien; Roberta (Keith) Allen, Tomah; Peter (Sue) Sprosty, Sandwich, IL; Paul Sprosty, Prairie du Sac; David Sprosty, Prairie du Chien; and Ronald Sprosty, Rapid City, SD; 36 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; three brothers: William (Ruth) Mezera, Tennyson; Robert (Mary) Mezera, Des Moines, IA; Edward Mezera, Red Springs, NC; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Mezera, Boscobel; many
nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband,
James, on April 11, 2004; a son, Albert; a daughter, Theresa; a sister, Florence (Al) Errthum; and a brother, Howard.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Johns Cemetery, Patch Grove Township. Family and friends called on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington, where a 7:00p.m. Lioness Service and Rosary will be held. Friends also called on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Mildred J. Sprosty Memorial Fund has been established.
