 Mildred M. Wepking, age 91, of  Lancaster, died on  Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on January 6, 1918, in  Iowa County, the daughter of George and Kathryn (Draves) Grunenwald. Mildred graduated from Livingston  High School and furthered her education at the Teachers College in Platteville, graduating in 1942. Mildred taught school at Hazel Dell in rural Livingston for three years.

On  June 12, 1945, Mildred was united in marriage to J. Dallas Wepking at Platteville. Mildred enjoyed the partnership with her husband owning and operating a furniture store and funeral home in  Lancaster and a drug store/gift shop in Cassville. She also enjoyed standing by her husbands side during his years as Grant County Sheriff. Mildred was a charter member of the Grant Regional Hospital Auxiliary and of the VFW Auxiliary. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas on  October 25, 1995, and a brother, Harold.

Survivors include her sisters: Alice Frye, Lancaster; Marian Griswold, Sun Prairie; a sister-in-law, Myrna Wepking, Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009, at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in  Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on  Friday, May 1, 2009 from noon until time of services at the funeral home with a VFW Auxiliary service at  1:00 p.m.
