Michael P. Smith, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, surrounded by his family at the Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore.
Michael was born on February 10, 1946, in Cuba City, the son of Stanley and Charlotte (Slaght) Smith. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. Mike was united in marriage to Mary Melcher Smith on July 2, 1988, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Madison. He was employed as a welding instructor at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College from 1971 to 2001. Mike enjoyed collecting antiques, working on the family farm, training horses, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church and the F&AM Lodge No. 4 of Potosi.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Molly Ann Smith and Megan Elizabeth Smith; a sister, Charlene Jan Smith; mother and father-in-law, John (Beatrice) Melcher and their family; and many cousins.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 31, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Thursday, August 30, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church where a 3:45 p.m. Masonic Service was held. Visitation was also on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Michael P. Smith memorial fund has been established.
