 Mervin G. Merv Myhre, age 78, of Bagley, died on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Prairie Maison, Prairie du Chien. He was born on August 28, 1933, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Julian and Stella (Overhaug) Myhre. Merv attended school in Spring Grove, MN. He entered the United States Air Force and served his county during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator stationed in Alaska. In 1956, Merv was united in marriage to Treasure Brookens at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. After their marriage, the couple resided in Bloomington. Merv was employed at Hermsen Hardware in Bloomington for several years. He later was a manager for Skelgas and later Haskins Oil until his retirement. Merv was very active in the Bloomington and Bagley communities. He served on the fire department from 1963 until the present, served on the rescue squad from 1971 until 1975, and served as the secretary and treasurer for the Abraham Hickock Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington. Merv loved to manage the Grass Motor Sales Softball team during the summer months. He also enjoyed bowling and socializing with the people of the Bloomington and Bagley communities. Merv was known best for his, Stay out of trouble.

Survivors include his wife, Treasure Myhre, Bagley; their children: Wayne (Michelle) Myhre, Bloomington; Scott (Pam) Myhre, Bagley; Sherry (Mike) Bartels, Avoca; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brothers: Gerald Myhre, Belmont; Jerome (Myrna) Myhre, Georgetown, TX; a sister, Virginia Howard, Whitehall; a brother-in-law, Herb (Charlotte) Brookens, Prairie du Chie; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Merv was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Myhre; a brother-in-law, Milton Howard; and a niece, Julie.

Funeral services with military honors were held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial be at a later date. Family and friends called on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Mervin G. Myhre Memorial Fund has been established to benefit local volunteer organizations.
