Merlin J. Cap Udelhoven, age 88, of Potosi, died on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. He was born on September 2, 1922, in Potosi, the son of John and Susan (Langkamp) Udelhoven. On February 16, 1942, Merlin was united in marriage to Jenny June Reed at St. Clement Rectory in Lancaster. He entered the United States Navy in 1945 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946. Merlin farmed the family farm for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children: Cheryl Patcle, Potosi; Lynette (Terry) Stoney, Cassville; John Udelhoven, Boice Creek; Kevin (Peggy) Udelhoven, Lancaster; sixteen grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Merlin was preceded in death by his wife, Jenny June, grandchildren, Zachary and Annette; his sisters and brother: Esther Gotzinger, Laura Pennekamp and Herman Udelhoven.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends calledl on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is assisted the family.
