Merle Jamison, age 95, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on January 16, 1913, in Beetown, the daughter of James and Vina (Burton) Duncan. In October of 1929, Merle was united in marriage to LeRoy Jamison in Dubuque. After their marriage, the couple resided in Beetown for a short time before moving a few miles outside of Lancaster in January of 1947. The couple farmed there for many years. Merle enjoyed working on the farm, raising chickens, gardening and canning. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and great-great-great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children: Zona Levins, East Dubuque, IL; Zena (Ted) Grattan, Lancaster; Vernetta Seippel, Lancaster; George (Diane) Jamison, Dubuque; and Charles Jamison, Lancaster; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Merle was preceded in death by her husband on June 21, 1977; two sons, LeRoy, Jr. and David; four brothers: Clyde, Lloyd, Jeff and Jim; two sisters: Belva Pascoe and Inga Reiser; three sons-in-law: Delbert Levins, Harold Chapman and Henry Seippel; her step-father, William Clauer; and one great-grandson, Tyler Houtakker.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Community Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Arevalo officiating. Burial was in Burns Cemetery, Beetown. Friends called on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
