Maxine L.Popp age 85, of Platteville, died on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at her home. She was born on June 26, 1924 in rural Platteville, the daughter of Otto and Florence (Wright) Duncan. Maxine graduated from Platteville High School and attended the University of Wisconsin — Platteville for two years. She was united in marriage to William J. Popp on November 30, 1945 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2008. Together they farmed in rural Belmont for seven years before moving to Platteville and co-owned and operated City Market for two years. Maxine worked at Dick's Supermarket for over 30 years, including being a sales rep for Hallmark/Ambassador.

Maxine loved to crochet; her beautiful creations are proudly displayed in the homes of family members. She also enjoyed walking, dancing and listening to music, especially by her son, Larry and grandson, Bryan. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace.

Maxine is survived by her son, Larry "Fizz" (Ellen) Popp, Platteville; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Troy) Kerkenbush, Platteville and Bryan (Shannon) Popp, Lancaster; six great-grandchildren: Presley, Paige and Kaia Kerkenbush and Addyson, Lainey and Lexy Popp; her sister, Joyce Bridges, Tucson, AZ and her sister-in-law, Helen Buss, Belmont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Linda Jean. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville with the Reverend Jeff Pederson officiating. Burial will be held in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. Family and friends are welcome from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers and plants a Maxine L. Popp Memorial Fund has been established.
