Mavis M. Duncan, age 91, formerly of Beetown, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Lancaster Care Center due to complications of Alzheimer's. She was born on October 7, 1921, in Cassville, the daughter of Will and Jennie (Burrows) Cardey. She graduated from Potosi High School in 1940, and that same year, on June 10, married the love of her life, Jack Duncan. They farmed in the Beetown area their entire lives; and in 2010 celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mavis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and devoted her life to farming alongside Jack and raising their children, Doug and Yvonne. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, baking and cooking, and being a homemaker. Mavis was musically talented, playing the piano and guitar "by ear" and loved singing with her family. Everyone who stopped by the Duncan home was welcomed with an invitation to stay for supper or at least share a cup of coffee and a piece of homemade pie. She will be missed by her loving family.
Survivors include a son, Doug (Donna) Duncan of Cuba City; daughter, Yvonne (Patrick) McIntyre of Dodgeville; Grandchildren, Lisa (Denny) Miller of Verona; Jason (Jenna) Palzkill of Oregon, WI; brother-in-law, Darrel Duncan of Lancaster; great-grandchildren: Emma Miller, Jacob Miller and Cullen Palzkill; step-grandchildren: Ted Shuler of Dickeyville; Roni Kauffman of Lancaster; Kim (Cal) Bunders of Woodman; Daniel (Carol) Girton of Bullhead City, AZ; Debbie (Ron) Mootz of Branson, MO; step great-grandchildren: Doug (Courtney) Kauffman; Jessie, Ben (Natalia), and Jake Kauffman; and several step great-great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Jack, Mavis was preceded in death by: sister, Retha Klarman; brother, George Cardey; brother-in-law, Charles Klarman and sister-in-law, Helen Duncan.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Allan Christopherson officiating. Burial was in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends called on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
