Mason F. Chapman, age 79, of Moline, IL, formerly of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. He was born on February 14, 1930, in Milton Junction, the son of Glen and Sylvia (Balch) Chapman. On October 8, 1950, Mason was united in marriage to Carolyn Hill at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. He was employed with John Deere for twenty-eight years as a machine operator, retiring in 1991. Mason loved the Chicago Cubs. He was a true baseball lover and he toured the country seeing games in every major league ball park throughout the United States and Canada many times over. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid crossword puzzle worker and loved reading books.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Chapman, Moline, IL; his daughter, Linda Chapman Schroeder, Cambridge, WI; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Mason was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Chapman.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor David Scofield officiating. Burial was in the Seventh Day Adventist Waterloo Township Cemetery. Friends called on Monday, October 5, 2009, from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
