CASSVILLE – Mary Lou Roe, age 85, of Cassville, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Edenbrook in Platteville. She was born May 29, 1939, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Berntgen) Roschi. Mary Lou graduated from Bloomington High School in 1957. After high school, she was employed with Chicago Title and Trust in Chicago as a keypunch operator. On January 30, 1960, she was united in marriage to James A., “Jim”, Roe in Denver, Colorado. They lived for a brief time in Colorado, where she worked for the State of Colorado in the Capitol Building. Jim and Mary Lou returned to Wisconsin and started their family. She dearly loved being a mom and homemaker. After the children were in school, Mary Lou worked as a cook at St. Francis Xavier School in Brighton, and later worked as a bank teller at Kenosha Savings and Loan, in Paddock Lake. After Jim’s retirement in 1989, they moved to Cassville and Mary Lou was employed at Swiss Colony. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and a Lioness member.
Mary Lou enjoyed watching sports, the Packers, Brewers, Cubs, and Badgers but especially any team that included one of her children or grandchildren. Mary Lou thoroughly enjoyed the company of her family, she was close with her brothers and sisters. Mary Lou loved hunting season when her kids and grandkids came back to Roe Deer Camp. She was first to the “hunting shed” when she heard any activity. Mary Lou was often on a boat with her kids in the summer, she loved catching bluegills with her grandkids. She also liked to embroider, bake, hunt morels, garden, bird watching, travel with her children, and being outdoors. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Mary Lou strived to always be helpful and kind and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving is her husband, Jim; their children: Kathryn (Randy) Meyer, Suzanne (James Remillong) Roe, Debra (Bob King) Roe, David (Terri) Roe and Robert (Shelby) Roe; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her siblings: Virginia Leamy, Ann (Scott) Zenz, Mike (Kathy) Roschi, and Cindy (Tim) Gehde; a sister-in-law Geri Roschi; daughter-in-law Pam Roe; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Helen; a son, John; a brother, Kenneth; a sister, Lillian; and a brother-in-law, James Leamy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Fr. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Family and friends may call on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
