Mary Lois (Meyers) Mink, age 84 of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Patch Grove, was given her angel wings on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Prairie Maison Nursing Home. Mary was born on May 23, 1930 in Underwood, North Dakota, to Henry and Iva (Hinch) Meyers. The family moved to Beetown, Wisconsin in 1937.
Mary attended Beetown grade school and Lancaster High School, graduating in 1947. It was at Whitmans Caf in November of 1946 that she met the handsome U.S. Marine, Donald Walter Mink, whom she married on July 26, 1947 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. They lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin until 1956 when they moved to Patch Grove. Mary was the bookkeeper for her husbands business, Don Mink Plumbing & Heating for 30 years.
In addition to raising their 5 children and working in the business, Mary was very active in the community as a 4-H leader, a member of the Patch Grove United Methodist Church, the Grant County Homemakers, the Fort Crawford Chapter of the D.A.R., the Royal Neighbors, and Rebekah Lodge No. 1007.
Mary was a woman of faith and the heart of the Mink family. She was a wonderful cook and is best known for her Cinnamon Knot Rolls. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with family and friends. Mary was kind, loving and full of grace. She sincerely and gently cared for and accepted others. Her home was welcoming and immaculate and her cookie jar was never empty.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Phil) Kirschbaum of Patch Grove; James (Deb) Mink of Prairie du Chien; Cynthia (Lawrence) Busch of Lancaster; Jeffrey (Lisa) Mink of Prairie du Chien and Kim (John) Curtis of Patch Grove; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Meyers of San Antonio, Texas, members of the Mink family, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2006; a great-grandson, William Mink; a daughter-in-law, Brenda (Mumm) Mink; a brother, Charles (Ann) Meyers and a sister-in-law, Lucille Meyers.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate the life of Mary L. Mink were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Family and friends called on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Lancaster is assisting the family.
A Mary L. Mink memorial fund has been established to honor Marys life. Her family encourages people to help those in need this holiday season.
