Mary Luella Place age 83, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on August 15, 1926, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Leo and Margaret (Flesch) Duve. Mary Luella attended school at St. Clement Catholic School in Lancaster. On January 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Clarence L. Place at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. After their marriage, the couple resided in Lancaster. Mary Luella enjoyed needle point, creweling, fishing, cooking and baking. There was always a fresh baked dessert for the children to come home to. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, St. Clement CCW, the VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the DAVA.
Survivors include her six children: William J. (Kathy) Place, Rohnert Park, CA; Charles L. (Regina) Place, Fulda, Germany; Edward C. (Sheila) Place, Lancaster; Peggy (William) Muller, Copperas Cove, TX; Mary Lou Place and Rita Place, both of Lancaster; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers: Evelyn (Phillip) Peterson, Lindsberg, KS; Jane Duve, Grand Blanc, MI; Ivan (Jean Ann) Duve, Shelby, MT; Eugene “Red” (Marilyn) Duve, Independence, MO; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary Luella was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her husband, Clarence, a sister, Irene Erickson, and a brother, Clement Duve.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. where a 2:00 p.m. rosary will be held at Schwartz Funeral Home. Friends may also call on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
