Mary Lou (Morgan) Sprosty, age 83, of Patch Grove, died on Friday, February 19, 2010, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien. She was born on September 8, 1926, to Joseph and Susan Moris in rural Beetown, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Ralph Morgan on November 11, 1944 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove. To this union were born ten daughters and seven sons. They farmed near rural Mt. Ida and later in rural Bagley. Ralph died in February of 1966. Mary Lou re-married Arthur Sprosty on May 31, 1980 also at St. Johns. They lived in Patch Grove, where she lived until the time of her death.
Mary Lou enjoyed being involved with her family, cooking, crocheting, bowling, and playing cards. She worked at a restaurant for a number of years where she was known for her famous apple pie. As a life-long member of St. Johns Catholic Church she was a member of the Altar Society and assisted with many church activities.
She is survived by her children: Barbara Meng of Glen Flora; Jim (Jean) of Mt. Hope; Linda (Butch) Quick of Orfordville; Dennis (Diane) of Lancaster; Mary Ann (David) Redman of Prairie du Chien; Dorothy (Dave) Holtz of Tomah; Robert (Connie) of Prairie du Chien; Donna (Mike) McKinney of Bagley; Betty (Jon) Cooley, Bagley; Kathy (Ron) Knapp, Mt. Hope; Pat, Bagley; Mike (Cindy) Franklin; Rita of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Christy (Brian) Krause of Alden, Iowa; Bill (Nancy) Morgan of Patch Grove; Terry Laufenberg (Laurie deceased) of Mt. Hope. She is also survived by her two sisters Theresa (Ross) Bushnell; Susan (Robert) Boldt and four brothers, Bob (Jane) New Jersey; Larry (Judy) Milwaukee; Gerald (Sherrie) Milwaukee; Fritz, Prairie du Chien and 40 grandchildren and42 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Susan Moris, her husbands Ralph Morgan and Arthur Sprosty, her daughter, Laurie Laufenberg and infant son, Phillip, her brothers, Leo, Joe, Charles, Barney, Paul & Raymond and grandchildren Dwain, Jody, Austin and Aren Henkes.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Burial was in St. Johns Cemetery, Patch Grove. Family and friends were welcome on Monday, February 22, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in Patch Grove and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.
