Mary Lee C. Schier, age 71, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. She was born January 9, 1943, the daughter of Emil and Leila (Walz) Kuenster. Mary Lee graduated Bloomington High School in 1961, and later attended Dental Assistant School in St. Paul, MN. She married Reginald L. Schier on April 28, 1962, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Glen Haven. Together they farmed in Glen Haven Township. Mary Lee was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and its Altar Society and Church Council. She was also a member of the Red Hatters and helped at election time at the Town Hall. Mary Lee enjoyed quilting, baking, flower gardening, and a good game of cards. She also helped with Bingo at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. Mary Lee enjoyed life on the farm and loved being around her family.
Surviving is her husband Reggie; their children, Janine (Dan) Bausch; Sheila (Randy) Rentschler; Leslie (Michael) Somma; Regina (Kevin) Junk; Bill (Kristin) Schier; and Emily (Mark) Grabarczyk; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her brother, Neil (Rosemary) Kuenster; a sister-in-law, Kate (Jim) Vogt; and brother-in-law, Bruce Biggin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Betty Jean Biggin; and two brothers, Dale and Larry in infancy.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Glen Haven with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven. Family and friends called on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Glen Haven where a 2:45 p.m. rosary will be held. Friends also called on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. The Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Bloomington is assisting the family.
