Mary Jane Hermsen, age 85, of Bloomington, died Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. She was born in rural Glen Haven on May 8, 1928, the daughter of Dennis and Harriet Sis (Hochhausen) Rogers. Mary Jane graduated from Bloomington High School in 1946. She married Roy F. Hermsen on November 9, 1950, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Bloomington. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, bingo, playing cards and working at the family business, Hermsens Ace Hardware. Roy and Mary Jane were founders and co-owners of Holiday Haven Campground for five years, which is known today as Jellystone Campground in Bagley.
Survivors include her children: Dan (Julie) Hermsen, Sue (Jim) Bausch, and Jane (Greg) Patterson, all of Bloomington; grandchildren: David (Jessica) Hermsen, Jennifer (Brian) Thiry, Kate (Scott) Bunge, Steve Gotto, Megan Miles, Michael (Nicole) Patterson, Carolyn (Hans) Christiansen, and Christine (Andy Noskowiak) Patterson; great-grandchildren, Ava, Zachary, and Jonathan Hermsen, Jaxson Thiry, Brady, Brock, and Brielle Bunge, Isaac Christiansen; sister-in-law, Charlotte Kluesner, Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy in 2011; her brother, Dr. Wallace Rogers, son-in-law, Jim Gotto and a sister in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Friends called on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Mary Jane Hermsen Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington is assisting the family.
