Mary J. Ellis

Mary J. Ellis, age 84, of Platteville formerly of Lancaster, passed away Friday October 2, 2020 at Edenbrook in Platteville. She was born October 23, 1935, the daughter of Edward and Olive (Pross) Fiedler. She attended many rural schools. On April 21, 1954, Mary was united in marriage to Roger Ellis at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fennimore. Together they farmed in Lima Union Township. She was also employed as a cook at the truck stop in Platteville and Fennimore, Cottonwood Supper Club, Pink Pony, and for the Delta Fraternity House in Platteville. Mary was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing Bingo.
Survivors include her loving husband, Roger; their children: Jane (Delbert) Rupp, Sr.; James, Jack, and Betty Ellis; Lisa (Kendall) Henkel; Joe (Lori) Ellis; Sandy (Tony) Sedlak; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eileen and Gert Fiedler; many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two granddaughters, Sylvia Withrow and Desiree Henkel; her siblings: Rose (Fred "Fritz") Springelmeyer; Richard, Bill, and Bernard (Joan) Fiedler.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 5, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Vernon officiating. Private family burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. In keeping with Mary's wishes, there will be no public visitation. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Mary J. Ellis Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family.
