Mary Ann Carroll, daughter of Leo and Clara (Matous) Bublitz, died November 9, 2019. She was a caring woman, mother, sister, aunt, friend, singer, baker, seamstress, and wife. Mary Ann had a deep Catholic faith which was strengthened in high school while cleaning and cooking at the Saint Clement Rectory. Father Felix Hoffman recognized Mary Ann’s love of music and vocal ability. He both encouraged and supported her involvement in vocal lessons and musical performances throughout high school. Her faith and love of music prompted her active involvement in music at Saint Clement where she both organized and sang at mass and other church services and functions.
Mary Ann’s marriage to Roger Carroll on February 14, 1953 was the initial step in fulfilling her life’s dream of raising a large family which included her biological children and children from programs promoting cultural understanding. She was a passionate seamstress, creating clothing for her 10 children and to those in need. Mary Ann enjoyed cooking. The smell of fresh baked breads, noodles, and cookies often greeted family and friends as they entered the Carroll home. She also shared her homemade cookies with customers, employees, and sales representatives of the family business; Carroll’s Plumbing and Heating.
Together, Mary Ann and Roger Carroll raised ten children: Colleen (Scott Travis) Carroll, Joan (Neal) Pulvermacher, Mary Jean (Barry) Bruns, Jerry (Janelle) Carroll, Barb (Dean) Tucker, Tom (Patti) Carroll, Ann Kjos, Nancy (Dan) Sanger, Joe (Annette) Carroll, and Paula (Phil) Sorensen; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann has two sisters and two brothers: Joan (Paul) Carroll, Barb Fuller, Tom Bublitz, and Dan Bublitz. She was a sister-in-law to Dorothy (Herb) Fishnick, Jim (Carol) Carroll, Ruth (Bill) Irwin, Walter (Marion) Carroll, Paul (Joan) Carroll, Rose (Jim) Thompson, Ralph (June) Carroll, Dick (Sharon) Carroll, Don (Karen) Carroll, Larry (Sue) Carroll, Bob (Nancy) Carroll, and Kathy (Dick) Lettman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Vernon officiating. A private family burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, South Lancaster Township. Family and friends may call at. St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of plants, flowers and other gifts, Mary Ann’s children encourage you to bake some cookies and share them in their mother’s memory with neighbors and friends, or to make a donation in her name to the music program at Saint Clement School. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Lancaster in entrusted with her services.
