Marjorie B. “Marge” Maahs, age 97, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at ManorCare in Platteville. She was born April 17, 1920 in Potosi Township, the daughter of Leo and Esther (Richardson) Kelly. Marge attended Rigsby School and was later united in marriage to Donald “Bud” Maahs. She was employed for a time at the Burgess Battery Factory, did cleaning at the Dugout, and worked at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. Marge spent much of her free time doing embroidery on quilt squares and dish towels. She enjoyed being outside, working in her flower garden or cutting wood; she was known to run a chainsaw or two, and wasn’t afraid of work.
Survivors include her son, David (Darlene) Maahs; two grandsons: Daniel (Cindy) and Donald Maahs; four great-grandchildren: Brandon, Ashley, Brooke, and Tyler Maahs; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Bud”; a grandson, Dennis Maahs; four brothers: Melvin “Dave”, Bill “Virgil”, Elmer “Whity”, and Vernon “Bernie” Kelly; and two sisters: Marie Pickel and Marcella Pickel.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 21, 2018 at Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is entrusted with her services.
