Marion Lucille Welsh, age 89, of Mount Hope, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA. She was born on April 23, 1925, the daughter of John and Velma (Hayes) Vesperman. Marion graduated from Fennimore High School and went on to the University of Wisconsin at Platteville for a career in teaching. After graduation, she taught in many rural schools in the area, from there, she went to the Mount Hope School, Bloomington School, and finished her teaching career at Prairie du Chien. On November 26, 1948, Marion was united in marriage to Robert Welsh at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She was very active in the West Grant Lioness Club, Mount Hope Womens Auxiliary, Grant County Republican Women, Badger Camp and Southwest Opportunity Center. Marion enjoyed working each election poll and writing the Mount Hope News.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Bob) Keeney; grandson, Tom (Beth) Keeney and great-grandson, Ivan Keeney all of Mount Hope; brothers and sisters: Ruth (Cletus) Sisley, Lancaster; Percy Vesperman, Mt. Carroll, IL; Hazel Straka, Montfort; Stella Blair, Freemont; Archie Vesperman, Lancaster; Lyle Vesperman, Boscobel; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her son, John; a brother, Clarion; and sisters, Elsie and Bernice.
Funeral services were on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Lance Wetter officiating. Burial was in Hermitage Cemetery, Mount Hope Township. Family and friends called on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Marion L. Welsh Memorial Fund has been established.
