Marion K. Hazen, age 79, of Mount Hope, died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on March 28, 1929 in Lime Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Baethke) Kubicek. Marion graduated from Manitowoc High School. Marion was united in marriage on June 12, 1948 to Adelbert P. Hazen at Mount Hope United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1987. She received her Masters Degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Marion taught in the Lancaster School District, including many years at Winskill before retiring.
Marion was a lifelong resident of Mount Hope and was active in her church, Mount Hope United Methodist. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Park Board, Mount Hope Historical Society, Grant County Historical Society and the Old Friends Reunion Committee. Marion also enjoyed researching genealogy and made three trips to Czechoslovakia. She also enjoyed playing cards and bowling with her husband, Adelbert. Marion also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marion is survived by two sons: Larrie (Diana) and Rick (Judy) Hazen, both of Mount Hope; five grandchildren: Douglas (Tonya) Hazen and their two daughters, New Ulm, MN, David (Dawn) Hazen and their three sons, Jackson, WY, Kayla (Mark) Schmitt and their daughter, Rio, WI, Kara (Dan) Cordova and their two daughters and one son, Miami, FL, and Karla (Jason) Dummer and their daughter and son, Holmen; two sisters and one brother, Thelma (Roger) Reukauf, North Fond Du Lac, Donna Dressler, Patch Grove and Robert (Chris) Kubicek, Mineral Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Adelbert.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Mount Hope United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was held at a later date at Hermitage Cemetery, Town of Mount Hope. Family and friends were welcomed from 12:00 noon until time of services Sunday at the church.
