Marcia Rose Burr, age 79, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at her home. She was born on September 24, 1937, the daughter of Elgie, M.D. and Rose (Bausch) Houghton. On June 6, 1954, Marcia married Larry Burr at the Houghton family home in Lancaster. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. In 1963, Larry and Marcia, along with Robert and Goldie Burr, opened and operated the Meat Mart in Lancaster. Larry and Marcia Burr also owned the A&W restaurant in Lancaster which has been passed down within the family now in the third generation. Marcia, a devoted daughter, lovingly cared for her ailing mother for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and loved keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Allan (Tina) Burr; Marla (Randy) Mayne; Brian (Kathy) Burr; grandchildren: Kristy (Jason) Webster; Joshua (Karin) Burr; Phillip (Christina) Burr; Tara (Brad) Austin; Matthew (Ashlee) Mayne; Brittany, Sierra Burr; and Brooke Shannon; 9 great-grandchildren and one on the way; along with her dear friend and companion, Roger Latham.
In addition to her parents, Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Staub Burr; a sister, Mary Lou Nevin.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Private family burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. A Marcia R. Burr Memorial Fund has been established.
