Mandel A. Funk

Mandel A. Funk, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. He was born on October 16, 1927, the son of William and Phyllis (Hinson) Funk. On February 25, 1950, Mandel was united in marriage to Mildred M. Schuster at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. In 1954, Mandel entered into a partnership with Art Busher owning the Economy Body Shop in Lancaster. Mandel and Mildred started farming in 1957, after buying their first farm in Liberty Township. He later bought Art out and continued to run the body shop and farm for over 60 years. His son, Jeff, will continue on with the farms. Mandel was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his three children: Jeff (Sue) Funk; Cheryl (Tom Powers) Younger; Kim (Mike) Baliff; six grandchildren: Carrie (Casey) Kerstiens; Casey (Kenneth) Byl; Jessica (Eric) Pepperworth; Amanda (David) Edgar; Joseph (fianc

Alicia Johll) Baliff; Nathan (Kelsey Spensley) Baliff; great-grandchildren: Oakley Kerstiens; Kenlinn and Kasen Byl; Blaise Edgar; a brother, Robert Funk; his sisters: Betty (Monroe) Snyder; Sharon (Jack) Gruender; Karen (Larry) Kane; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mandel was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a son-in-law, Jim Younger; a sister, Mary (Matt) Frye; a brother, Stanley (Rae Ann) Funk; a sister-in-law, Rose Funk.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. A lunch will be served at the church following the services. Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.
