Mabel E. "Babe" Brandt, age 88, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Orchard Manor. Babe was born on March 6, 1924 in Waterloo Township, WI, daughter of Frank and Anna (Knockle) Patcle. She married Merlin Tubbs Brandt on May 21, 1946 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi. Babe and Tubbs farmed in rural Potosi for most of their lives. In later years, she was a cook at Friedmans Supper Club. She also became known as Grandma Babe while working at Tee-Pee Daycare in Potosi.
Babe is survived by her children, Beth (Carl) Abing of Cassville, Greg (Mary) Brandt of Cuba City, Cathy (George) Pennekamp of Potosi, Pat (Tom) Tobin of Potosi, and Jane (Dale) Ley of Potosi; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Donald Brandt of Kieler; a sister-in-law, Helen Patcle of Potosi; and several nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin in 2009; her parents; two brothers, John Patcle and Frank Patcle Jr.; and three sisters, Marge Zenz Cherrier, Mary Zenz, and Florence Elwell.
Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, with Fr. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery in Potosi. Friends called from 9 am until the start of the service Tuesday at the church. Martin Funeral Home, Potosi is serving her family.
In lieu of plants and flowers, a Babe Brandt Memorial Fund has been established to be given to local organizations.
