Loyle K. Wood

Loyle K. Wood, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 79, of Cassville, died following open heart surgery on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at St. Marys Hospital in Madison. He was born on February 13, 1933, in Grant County, the son of Lawrence and Leila (Dolphin) Wood. Loyle attended Bloomington High School. He entered the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and served his country from 1951 until 1955 on the USS Hamul. On January 21, 1956, Loyle was united in marriage to Elaine Sanders in Madison. After their marriage, the couple moved to Whitewater where Loyle attended college. In 1957, the couple moved to the Cassville area where they farmed for thirty years. Loyle also sold silos, farm equipment, and seed corn. After farming, he was an Insurance Agent for Bloomington Farmers Mutual where he also served on the board, and was the secretary/treasurer and manager of the company. He retired at age 75. Loyle was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Cassville and the VFW Post No. 7080 of Cassville. He served on various boards and committees for the surrounding community. Loyle was a private pilot, an avid sports fan, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Elaine Wood, Cassville; their children: Stuart Wood, McFarland; Steve (Ann) Wood, Waunakee; Sandy Wood, Sun Prairie; Stan (Kathy) Wood; Shawn (Dena) Wood; Susan (Mitch) Degenhardt, all of Cassville; Spencer Wood, Chicago, IL; ten grandchildren: Jeremy (Megan) Wood, Brooke (Tyler) Niesl, Jordan, Aaron (Desiree), Trenton, Brandon, Blake, and Brinley Wood, Andrea and Tiffany Degenhardt; three great-grandchildren; his three siblings: Janice Briggs, Madison; Keith (Kay) Wood, and Joann (Richard) Pellock, all of Cassville; two sisters-in-law: Irene Wood and Lois Wood, both of Cassville; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Loyle was preceded in death by a son, Stacey Wood, and his brothers: Raymond, Loren (Marge) and RobertDean Wood; and a brother-in-law, John Briggs.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial with military honors was held in Cassville Cemetery. Family and friends called on Friday, March 23, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Loyle K. Wood Memorial Fund has been established.
