Lois C. Krantz, age 82, of Lancaster, her knitting needles went silent in December and her heart stopped beating on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Edenbrook in Platteville with her family by her side. She was born on April 21, 1941, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Albert and Leone (Eulgem) Walz. Lois graduated from Bloomington High School. On November 5, 1959, she was united in marriage to Vernon J. Krantz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven. Lois worked as a nurse’s assistant at the Care Center for many years, Homeward Bound, and at local restaurants, retiring in 1991. She and Vernon moved to Beetown in 1972 and managed the General Store. In 1976 they moved to Lancaster. Lois enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was the family barber as well as the family dental assistant for all the grandchildren’s loose teeth. Lois also enjoyed volunteering. She dedicated many hours to the Boy Scouts, Grant County Thrift Shop, Grant Regional Auxiliary in the gift shop and giving kindergarten tours and served as a superintendent for the Grant County Fair. She loved her cats, most recently, Marshmallow. She was “Mom” to many others and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a daughter, Marge (Bill) Gantenbein, five sons, Paul, Roger, Bill (Deb), Mike, and Patrick Krantz; a daughter-in-law, Mikey (Todd) Clanton; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 6 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Janice (Warren) Johll; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Vernon, Lois was preceded in death by a son, Gary; daughters-in-law, Nancy and Joan; a grandson, Mathew; a granddaughter, Sandra, and many members of the Walz and Krantz family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is entrusted with her care.
