Len P. Demert, age 81, of Cassville, went to be with his Lord surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Gunderson Lutheran in La Crosse. He was born on May 10, 1931, in Neillsville, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Grimm) Demert. Len married Carol Honeysett in 1955. During his lifetime, Len was in the Wisconsin National Guard, a teacher at Footville Elementary and Janesville Marshall Junior High, a counselor at Parkview High School and a salesman for A.O. Smith Harvestor. Len and Carol resided in Footville, before moving to Minnesota and then back to Wisconsin to live in Cassville. He spent much of his time involved in the communities where he lived, gardening, and working in his church. Len served his Lord by loving his family and helping the children of Haiti to get a better education. He raised money to build schools and support orphanages there.
Len is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; their four daughters: Carla (Bruce) Flesch, Platteville; Lynn (Roger) Langseth, Stewartville, MN; Patty (Jack) Nicolay, El Paso, IL; Penny (Marcus) Neal, Mineral Point; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Margie Lau and Audrey Meyer; a brother, David (Joy) Demert; and a brother-in-law, Ralph (Georgia) Honeysett.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cassville High School Gymnasium in Cassville. Family and friends called on Friday, September 28, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the River Valley Community Church in Cassville and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the school. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be made to Schools for Haiti, 301 Wyota Street, Cassville, WI 53806. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is serving the family.
