Lawrence Anicet Kartman, age 78, of Potosi, passed away with his family by his side, on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. He was born on November 23, 1936, the son of Donald and Camilla (Leibfried) Kartman. Larry attended Burton Country School and was a graduate of Cassville High School. He was united in marriage to Ruth Pennekamp on October 27, 1964, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. Their marriage was blessed with four sons. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed playing softball. He played on numerous teams in the area. Larry never used a glove and played bare handed. Larry purchased his first farm at eighteen years of age. He was proud to be a farmer while also working full time. Larrys first job after high school was at Rock Wool in Lancaster working for Phil Downey. He was employed for twenty-three years at Dubuque Packing Company. Larry served on the Waterloo Township Board for many years. He was an assessor for the township as well. Larry was always on the go; he enjoyed going to auctions, socializing with Amish friends and neighbors, and attending his grandchildrens activities. He was his grandchildren's number one fan in all of their activities.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth; their children: Mike (Jen) Kartman, Lancaster; Mark (Amy) Kartman, Duane (Gina) Kartman, both of Cassville; Danny (Maggie) Kartman, Fennimore; his beloved grandchildren: Tina, Logan, Ty, Jared, Anna, Keira, and Koy; his great-grandchildren: Kenzi, Jacie, and Bentley; his siblings: Roger (Donna) Kartman, Cassville; Dinah Jo (LeRoy) Wilkinson, Polo, IL; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and his faithful companion, Libby.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a brother, Richard; a grandson, Ryker; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Family and friends called on Monday, December 22, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
