Lavon L. Meier

LaVon L Meier, age 89, of Burton, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at her home. She was born August 24, 1928 in Waterloo Township, the daughter of Alvin and Gladys (Irish) Slaght. She attended Dutch Ridge rural school and Cassville High School. She married William A. Meier on February 2, 1944. Together they lived in the Burton area, where they raised their loving family. LaVon was always busy with her children, and enjoyed baking and cooking for them. She was best known for her homemade pies, noodles, and her large gardens. LaVon later provided home health care for others, and was employed briefly at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works. She enjoyed deer, mushroom and ginseng hunting as well as fishing. LaVon was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burton.
Survivors include her children: Darleen Buss, Diane (Dave) Buss, Doug (Sandy), Dale (Carol), Mark (Diane) Meier, Bonnie (Jay) Lenz, Bob (Sue), Rod (Kim), Dawn (Charlie) Bernhardt, Dan (Lynn) Meier, and Lisa (Floyd) Churchill; grandchildren: Angele Walsh, Lauri Meier, Shane and Cody Buss, Travis and Billy Meier, Michelle Fernandes, Mike Meier, Jamie Lenz, Nikki Dotte, Ashley and Dustin Lenz, Zach and Chris Meier, Chad, Brandon and Kylie Meier, Jim, Dakota and Dallas Bernhardt, Tiffany, Corey and Mattie Meier, Whitney, Logan, Cole, and Autumn Churchill; step-grandchildren: Amanda Cook, Gina Ziegler, Anthony Gardner; 28 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews
LaVon was preceded in death by her husband, William; a son-in-law, LaDell Buss; a granddaughter, Kelly Meier; a brother, Merlin (Doris) Slaght; and a sister, Maleta (Thomas) Stluka.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burton with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Lancaster is assisting the family.
