LaVerne O. Lolwing, age 81, of Potosi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. He was born December 8, 1931, in Hazel Green, the son of Arano and Cecelia (Bausman) Lolwing. LaVerne served his country in the United States Army. On May 23, 1953, he married Joyce Scheppele at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA. LaVerne worked in construction in Dubuque, IA, until 1956. He then began farming in the Yellow Stone Lake, Darlington and Potosi areas. LaVerne also was a Deputy Sherriff for Grant County and served as Potosi Police Chief for eight years. He was a member of St. Andrew Thomas Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Law Enforcement Association, Lions Club, 40 & 8, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 473 of Potosi. LaVerne enjoyed playing Euchre and spending time with family and friends.
LaVerne is survived by his ten children, Pat (Chuck) Williams, Seneca, SC, Tom Gopher Lolwing, Montfort, Joe (Annette) Lolwing, Lancaster, Suzanne (Dave) Spindler, Beaver, PA, Robert (Kim) Lolwing, Potosi, Edith Edie (Gene) Hinderman, Potosi, William (Sarah) Lolwing, Lancaster, Joyce (Steve) Roling, Cuba City, Jen Phillips, Seneca, SC, and Sheri (Troy) Hugill, Potosi; 17 grandchildren, Phillip, Bobbie Jo, Stacey, Jennifer, Emily, Chealsey, James, Eric, Katie, Payton, Paige, Justin, Amanda, Ryan, Alexa, Lucas and Abbigail; seven great-grandchildren, Bradly, Cameron, Jayden, Devon, Declan, Drake and Lyvea; his brothers: Alfred (Mickey) Lolwing, Scottsdale, AZ, Mello (Marie) Lolwing, Hazel Green; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2006; his parents; a granddaughter, Amey Lolwing; and a great-granddaughter, Addison Laack.
