L. James Jim Leitl, age 84, of Platteville, died on Friday, August 31, 2012, at his residence. He was born on April 19, 1928, the son of Butch and Bess (Dehos) Leitl. Jim graduated from Platteville High School in 1946, and immediately enlisted in the US Navy. After his service, he attended and graduated from Platteville State Teachers College in 1951, and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1954. He then returned to Platteville to set up his law practice.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Mary DiVall (Leitl). In April, Jim lost the love of his life, Donna Scullion, of Platteville (formerly of Lombard, IL).
Jim is survived by his niece, Ellen DiVall (Lisle, IL), and many good friends and a cadre of outstanding caregivers.
Organizations and affiliations - Boy Scouts of America, American Legion Post No. 42, Platteville Masonic Lodge, Zor Shrine Temple, Zor Shriners Pipes and Drums, Platteville Congregational United Church of Christ, and was a past state president of the Wisconsin Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees).
A celebration of Jims life was held Saturday, September 22, 2012, from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Platteville Golf and Country Club. Private family burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. The Martin-Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
