Karen M. (Wienkers) Latham, age 71, of Lancaster, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at her home. She was born on June 26, 1938, in Racine, the daughter of Francis and Blanche (Nechvatal) Wienkers. Karen graduated from Montfort High School in 1956. She furthered her education at Madison General School of Nursing, graduating in 1959. On January 11, 1960, she was united in marriage to Roger Latham in Kenosha. Karen worked in various types of nursing most of her married life. She was the ideal nurse who truly loved everybody. Her last twenty-three years of nursing were with Unified Counseling in Lancaster. Karen was very dedicated and involved in her Catholic faith at St. Clement Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Roger Latham, Lancaster; her children: Kim Latham, Bloomington; Julie (Aaron) Anderson, Phoenix, AZ; three very special grandchildren: Cody, Ashlee, and Amanda Kirschbaum; one extra special great-grandson, Brady Matthew Martin; two sisters: Pat Jones, Mineral Point; Pauline Gay, Monona; four brothers: Charles Wienkers, Bellingham, WA; Jerry Wienkers, Kenosha; Joe Wienkers, Las Vegas, NV; and Kevin Wienkers, Green Bay.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Hoffmann and a son, Eric Latham.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends were welcome on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Karen M. Latham Memorial Fund has been established. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.
