Julius C. Wiest, age 88, of Cassville, died on Friday, August 16, 2013, at his home in Cassville. He was born on April 30, 1925, in Cassville, the son of Lawrence and Lila (Kirschbaum) Wiest. Julius attended country school and farmed his family farm outside of Cassville. On October 12, 1946, Julius was united in marriage to Lois Adrian at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. After their marriage, the couple farmed. In 1951, Julius purchased the family farm, which he farmed until 2004. He also owned and operated Wiest Fertilizer for forty-two years. Julius enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, playing cards, especially Euchre and Cribbage, tending bar, gambling on the boat and word search puzzles. His greatest joy in life was his family. Julius was a gentle giant and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Lois, Cassville; their children: David (Mary) Wiest, Clinton, IA; Pam (Kirby Toberman) Sturmer, St. Michael, MN; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two brothers: Dennis (Peggy) Wiest and Gary Wiest, all of Cassville; Bernilda Britt, Dubuque, IA; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Julius was preceded in death by his sisters and brother: Geraldine, Marina, Virginia, and Maurice; and a grandchild, Lisa Marie.
Funeral services were on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 12:00 noon at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville with Pastor Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
