Joseph Staskal, age 72, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. He was born on November 25, 1941, in Boscobel, the son of Dorris and Mildred (Rounds) Staskal. Joseph graduated from Fennimore High School in 1960. On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Janice Miles. After their marriage, Joseph was employed with Stella Cheese, Elwell Reynolds, and H&N Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Joseph enjoyed working for others, playing cards, fishing, woodworking, farming, and dearly loved spending time with family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Janice; their children, Shawn and Duane (Alisa); five grandchildren: Shana, Shyann, Samantha, Orion, and Jared; one great-grandson, Ryker; five siblings: Merlin Pete (Pat); Betty (Sid) Fischer; Lois Peggy (Glenn) Larson; Janice Crawford; Rick (Kathy); brother-in-law, Dave Breunig; sister-in-law, Ramona Reynolds; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Breunig; sister-in-law, Donna (Earl) Bradley; brothers-in-law, Jesse (Edna) Miles; Hobart Reynolds; and James Crawford; mother and father-in-law, Paul and Jeanette Miles.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 4, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Reverend Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Sunday, August 3, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is assisting the family.
