John S. Steinhoff, Sr., age 80, of Cuba City, died on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at his residence. He was born on March 18, 1929, in Harrison Township, the son of Edward and Lillian (VanNatta) Steinhoff. On January 17, 1976, John was united in marriage to Mary Heilman at Asbury, IA. John was formerly employed with Becker and Tuckwood Contactors and recently was employed with the Platteville High School.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Steinhoff, Cuba City; a son, John (Patsy) Steinhoff, Jr., Mt. Horeb; a grandson, Eric (Nancy) Steinhoff, Mt. Horeb; two granddaughters: Nichole (Brad) Junck, Mt. Horeb; Jennifer (John) Slick, Mt. Horeb; eight great-grandchildren; one brother: Edward (Pat) Steinhoff, Richmond, VA; one sister, Marilyn Lahann, Ft. Atkinson; a sister-in-law, Diane Smith, Delhi, IA; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Roger in infancy, and sisters: Meryl Phillips and Margaret Koester.
Grave side services were held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. There was no visitation. Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
