PLATTEVILLE – Jeanette C. McLaughlin, age 97, of Platteville, formerly of Potosi, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Gray’s Nursing Home in Platteville. She was born September 23, 1920 in Potosi, the daughter of Vincent and Genevieve (Elskamp) McLaughlin. She graduated from Potosi High School and went on to work on the family farm near Potosi. She also was employed at Reinecke’s store and meat market in Potosi, and continued to work there for Fritz’ and Brunners’ for over 44 years. Jeanette loved to crochet, go fishing, and do cross word puzzles, and will be remembered for her humor and telling people that she didn’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of.
Surviving are her son, James Mervin (Victoria) McLaughlin; three grandchildren: Misty McLaughlin, D.J. (Amber) McLaughlin, Casey (fiancé, Samantha Clasen) McLaughlin; three great-grandchildren: Macklyn, Kamdyn, and Ryker McLaughlin; nieces and nephews: Carol Ann (Dale) Hood and their son, Kurt, William (Connie) Kean and their daughters, Cherie and Deena.
In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her sister Gwenolyn (John) Kean; a nephew, Kevin Hood, and a great-grandaughter, Kendall Moore.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. Thomas Cemetery in Potosi with Father Richard Leffler officiating. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Jeanette C. McLaughlin Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Platteville is entrusted with her services.
