Jean D. Thier, age 77, of Lancaster, died on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on February 20, 1931, in Lancaster, the daughter of Kenneth and Nellie (Cox) Vesperman. Jean attended school at Farview Township and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1948. On October 15, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to William R. Bill Thier, Jr., at St. Lukes Methodist Church in Dubuque, IA. Jean was employed at Bailey Oil Company from 1948 until 1967. She then was employed at the Grant Community Clinic from 1968 until her retirement in 1993. During retirement, Jean and Bill spent the winters in Florida for ten years. She and Bill liked to fish, camp and go boating. Jean loved to babysit her nephews and niece. Jean was a member of the Congregational Church in Lancaster.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Doris Ann Vesperman, Lancaster; six nephews: John (Diane) Vesperman, Lancaster; Jeff (Lori) Vesperman, Fennimore; Joel (Renee) Vesperman, Lancaster; Jay Vesperman, Lancaster; Jim (Amy) Vesperman, Platteville; Jerry (friend Adina) Vesperman, Belmont; and one niece, Jennifer (friend Matt) Vesperman, Lancaster.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill on December 4, 2007; and a brother, Gerald Jake Vesperman in August of 1994.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
