Jannan Shaw

Jannan D. Shaw, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. She was born on November 20, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Jenelda (Kaeding) Bryhan. Jannan graduated from Lancaster High School in 1948. On August 2, 1952, she was united in marriage to James J. Shaw at the St. Clement Parsonage in Lancaster. Jannan was employed at Grant Community Clinic as a nurse for many years until she decided to stay home to raise her family. She was later employed at the Lancaster Middle School Office for more than seventeen years. Jannan was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of ELCA Women. She enjoyed camping at Devils Lake with her family and was known for her doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies. In retirement, Jannan and Jim spent more than twenty-two years traveling to Florida, Texas, and Arizona. Jannans greatest joy and passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jim; children: Diane (Steve) Schneider; David (Julie) Shaw; Daniel (Cris) Shaw; Linda (Tom) Wandersee; Laurie (Jim) Ihm; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Richard (Irene) and Keith (Rose) Bryhan; many nieces, nephews, and members of the Shaw family.

In addition to her parents, Jannan was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Schneider and a son-in-law, Bart Dickson.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 10, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is assisting the family.
