POTOSI – James P. "Jim" Oyen Sr., age 70, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, at his residence. He was born June 18, 1947, the son of Peter and Celestine (Brink) Oyen. Jim proudly served his country in the Unites States Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and horseback trail riding. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Jim dearly loved his family and keeping up with their activities.
Surviving are his children: Jim, Stacy (fiancé Dwayne Wimpey) Beck, Beth (Russ) Leeser, and Nicole (Cory) Morrisard; grandchildren: Kyle, Elliot Beck, Noah, Ty, Jase Leeser, Kali Oyen, Josh, Ethan Morrisard, siblings; Darlene Sabers, Cyril (Aleise), La Vern (Marlene), Margaret (Gerald) Eastlick, Doris (Pete) Neis, Betty (Gary) Peacock, Ruth (Ronald) Richardson, Dale (Nancy) Oyen, sisters-in-law: Grace, Rita Oyen and Delores (Joe) Oyen–Stoker; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded by his sister, Linda; his brothers, Harry (Rosie), Eldon (Doris), Philip, Nilus, and Ronald Oyen, and a brother in law, Eugene Sabers.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi, with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 South Madison Street, Lancaster, and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Potosi. In lieu of plants and flowers, a James P. Oyen memorial fund has been established.
