James L. "Jim" Kussmaul, age 81 of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. He was born October 4, 1936, the son of Alvin and Virginia (Reagan) Kussmaul. Jim graduated from Seneca High School in 1954, where he was competitive in sports. He enlisted in the United States Army to faithfully serve his country. On February 9, 1959, Jim was united into marriage to Mary E. Bradley at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington. Jim and Mary were employed at National Decorated Metals in Prairie du Chien. He later drove for Sunbeam Bread, Cenex and Bloomington Gas. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Abraham-Hickock-Wetmore American Legion Post 148 in Bloomington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, and family. Jim dearly loved time spent with Mary, whether it was going out to eat, fishing, or traveling.
Surviving is his loving wife Mary of 59 years, children: David (Mary Jo), Ellen (Dennis) Conley, Mark, Dan (Dee), Janice (Roy) Myers and John (Lisa) Kussmaul; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Donna (Roger) Becwar, two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Reagen and Sandy Kussmaul; many nieces, nephews, and members of the Bradley family.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers: Robert "Bud" Reagan and William Kussmaul; and a beloved granddaughter, Lacey Elizabeth Conley.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Monday, April 2, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Bloomington is serving the family.
