James E. Jim Schwartz, age 75, of Maitland, formerly of Lancaster, died on Sunday, May 12, 2013, unexpectedly at home of natural causes. He was born on September 28, 1937, in Lancaster, the son of Harry and Carol (Dobson) Schwartz. Jim graduated from Lancaster High School in 1955, and enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served at sea in the South Pacific while he was stationed in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge, Jim enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He began his sales career in dinnerware on the West Coast and later to the Southeast and East Coast. Jim later worked in real estate. He moved to Florida where he met Janis Hanzman, his soul mate.
Survivors include his long time companion, Janis, Maitland; his sister, Judy (Max) Lorenz, Jr., Dubuque, IA; his brothers: Tom (Kathy Brayton), Dyersburg, TN; Terry (Carol), Lancaster; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private Graveside Services will be held at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, with Lieutenant Commander Mark Dieter officiating. In lieu of plants and flowers, please direct memorials in his name to the University of Wisconsin Foundation, 1848 University Ave., Madison, WI 53726-4090. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
