James E. Day, age 83, of Bagley, died on Monday, January 5, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Madison. He was born on May 25, 1925, in Lancaster, the son of Bernell and Miriam (Ivey) Day. In 1943, James enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On November 9, 1954, James was united in marriage to Darlean Allen in Michigan. After their marriage, the couple resided in Milwaukee for 40 years, where James taught small engine and auto repair. He retired in 1985 and returned to Bagley. James continued to do small engine work out of his garage. He was a member of the Liscum Brothers American Legion Post No. 482 of Bagley and the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Ann Day and two sons-in-law, David Irish and Robert Wieher; his sisters: Dorothy Belcher and Mary Napierala and a brother, Robert Day.
Survivors include his wife, Darlean Day, Bagley; his children: Dennis (Lucy) Day, West Allis; Daniel (Robin) Day, Milwaukee; Cynthia Irish, Bagley; Karen Weiher, Milwaukee; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles (Barbara) Day, Milwaukee; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 16, 2009, at the Bagley Methodist Church in Bagley at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke and Pastor Darrel Allen officiating. Burial with military honors will be at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington assisted the family.
