James A. Parkins

James A. "Jim" Parkins, age 77, of Glen Haven, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster, unexpectedly due to a heart attack. He was born on November 5, 1937, in Bloomington, the son of Rollo and Pauline (Hampton) Parkins. Jim graduated from Bloomington High School in 1956. After graduation, he farmed the family farm. Jim began his own business as a carpenter and retired in 1997. On July 26, 1999, he was united in marriage to Terri Beesecker. Jim enjoyed his vegetable and flower garden and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved the Wisconsin Badgers and was a very hard worker his entire life. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Terri Parkins, Glen Haven; children: James (Kristy) Parkins, Jr., Eau Claire; Cheryl Mergen, Bloomington; Kurt Achenbach, Richland Center; Craig Achenbach, Fairfield, IA; Dr. Tara (Steve) Morgan, Lancaster; fourteen grandchildren: Crystal (Josh) Taylor; Ashley Mergen; Valerie and Cole Parkins; Kolten, Luke, and Emma Achenbach; Joseph and Jacob Jeardeau; Mackenzie, Ty, Jessica, Addison, and Cooper Morgan; one brother, Robert (Bernadette) Parkins, Bloomington; his dog, Blue; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends called on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
