Jack R. Vesperman, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. He was born on April 7, 1929, in South Lancaster Township, the son of Alvin and Ada (Hoehn) Vesperman. On January 14, 1950, Jack was united in marriage to Joan A. Austin in Indianapolis, IN. After their marriage, the couple farmed the Vesperman family farm in South Lancaster Township. Jack also drove school bus for thirty-six years, retiring in 2003. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. Jack also served as a Superintendent for the Grant County Fair. He loved spending time with his family and attending their activities.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; their daughters: Jill (Chuck) Addison; Judy (Gary) Drinkwater; Jan (Ron) Stubbe; Jean (Randy) Wanezek; Jackie (Dan) Reuter; Jonna (Faron Yanna) Vesperman; Jane (Alex Gisoldi) Vesperman; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Sunday, August 31, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Jack R. Vesperman Memorial Fund has been established.
