Jack S. Duncan, age 90, formerly of Beetown, passed away onTuesday, February 15, 2011at the Lancaster Care Center, after an extended illness. Jack was born in Beetown on March 9, 1920, the son of Lloyd Bing and Maude (Frankland) Duncan. Jack was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and cherished the time spent with his family.Jackand the former Mavis Cardey of Potosi were married in Dubuque, IA onJune 10, 1940, celebratingtheir 70th anniversary in 2010. Jack was a hard working farmer on theirdairy farm near Beetown, and loved working the land, along with Mavis. Jack wasa lover of nature and anavid outdoorsmanin every sense of theword. He was happiest while in the woods with his bow and arrows huntingdeer, turkey and bear;digging ginseng;running a trap line; fishing or pickinguparrowheads in his freshly plowed fields. He enjoyed listening to country music and singing, andpassed his naturalsinging talent onto his children. He also was an avid baseball fan, following theMilwaukee Braves and Brewers; a love he shared with grandson, Jason.
Jackis survived by his wife, Mavis of Lancaster;son Doug (Donna) Duncan of Cuba City;daughter, Yvonne (Patrick) McIntyre ofDodgeville; Grandchildren, Lisa (Denny) Miller of Verona; Jason (Jenna) Palzkill of Rochester, MN; brother, Darrel Duncan of Lancaster; an aunt, Virginia Weigel of Naples, FL;great-grandchildren: Emma and Jacob Miller; step-grandchildren:Ted Shuler of Dickeyville;Roni Kauffmanof Lancaster; Kim (Cal) Bunders of Woodman; Daniel (Carol) Girtonof Bullhead City, AZ; Debbie (Ron)Mootz of Branson, MO;step great-grandchildren: Doug (Courtney) Kauffman;Jessie,Ben, andJakeKauffman;andseveralstep great-great grandchildren,and otherrelatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law: Retha (Charles) Klarman, Helen Duncan, and brother-in-law, George Cardey.
Jack will bemissed by his loving family,but his sense ofhumor and love of life and music will fill our hearts forever.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Allen Christopherson officiating. Burial was in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends called on Saturday, February 19, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
