Jack F. Foster, age 79, of Bloomington formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. He was born on October 21, 1936, in Lancaster, the son of Harley F. and Esther M. (Brandemuehl) Foster. Jack attended Lancaster Schools. He entered the United States Army in 1956 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1963. On June 7, 1958, Jack was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Krueger at St. John's Catholic Church in Patch Grove. Their wedding was the first military wedding in the state of Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1996. Jack was employed with the Grant County Highway Department from 1962 until his retirement in 1998. On April 19, 2002, he was united in marriage to Florence Oates in Bloomington. Jack was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, trap shooting, camping, going out to eat, and playing cards. Jack dearly loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Florence of Bloomington; his children: Phyllis (Larry) Fuerstenberg, Bloomington; Brenda (Mark) Cullen, Lancaster; Cindy (Tom) Simpson, Lancaster; Bob (Darlene) Foster, Darlington; Tim Foster, Prairie du Chien; step-children: David Hampton, Patch Grove; Kathy (Mike) Mumm, Glen Haven; Bonnie (Stan) Harris, Madison; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Dolores Reed, Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Loretta Lenzendorf, Lancaster; a nephew, Don Pierce, Madison; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Beverly, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Smith and a step-granddaughter, Cindy Mumm.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, August 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109, the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 and the DAV was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church, where a 1:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus prayer service was held. Family and friends also called on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is serving the family.
